Manipulation Mobilisation

Manipulation and mobilisation are hands-on techniques to help restore a joint’s normal range of pain-free movement.

A mobilisation involves gentle repeated motion, while a manipulation involves short, sharp pressure.

Manipulation and mobilisation can be applied to many conditions, including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Headache
  • Arthritis
  • Sports injuries of all joints, from shoulders and elbows to hips, knees and feet

As a hands-on practice we are able to select the right grade of treatment for you. Joint or tissue mobilisation is our preferred choice of treatment to start with. This respects your body’s desire to heal and move well while offering you timely pain relief.

For the particularly stubborn and stiff joint we are able to selectively manipulate the right level with minimum risk. We only choose this approach when all other manual techniques and exercises have been employed, so you won’t find yourself coming back weekly for a quick fix.

All our physiotherapists are trained in widely-recognised manipulation and mobilisation techniques including those developed by Geoff Maitland and Brian Mulligan.
